چکیده

This paper presents a technique for improving the SNR and resolution of complex bandpass ∆ΣADCs which are used for wireless communication systems such as cellular phone, wireless LAN and Bluetooth. Oversampling and noise-shaping are used to achieve high accuracy of a ∆ΣAD modulator. However when a multi-bit internal DAC is used inside a modulator, nonlinearities of the DAC are not noise-shaped and the SNR of the ∆ΣADC degrades. For the conversion of complex intermediate frequency (IF) input signals, a complex bandpass ∆ΣAD modulator can provide superior performance to a pair of real bandpass ∆ΣAD modulators of the same order. This paper proposes a new noise-shaping algorithm— implemented by adding simple digital circuitry—to reduce the effects of nonlinearities in multi-bit DACs of complex bandpass ∆ΣAD modulators. We have performed simulation with MATLAB to verify the effectiveness of the algorithm, and the results show that the proposed algorithm can improve the SNR of a complex bandpass ∆ΣADC with nonlinear internal multi-bit DACs. key words: complex bandpass ∆ΣAD modulator, bandpass filter, noiseshaping, ADC, DAC, element rotation, data-weighted averaging, low-IF receiver

DWA Algorithms for Multibit Complex Bandpass ∆ΣAD Modulators of Arbitrary Signal Band

This paper describes Data-Weighted-Averaging (DWA) algorithms for multibit complex bandpass ∆ΣAD modulators with arbitrary signal bands. In most of bandpass ∆ΣAD modulators, their sampling frequency is chosen as four times of the center frequency of their signal band in order to simplify the following digital filter design. But with this relationship, their performance would be limited by the t...

High-Speed Continuous-Time Subsampling Bandpass ∆Σ AD Modulator Architecture Employing Radio Frequency DAC

This paper proposes a continuous-time bandpass ∆ΣAD modulator architecture which performs high-accuracy AD conversion of high frequency analog signals and can be used for next-generation radio systems. We use an RF DAC inside the modulator to enable subsampling and also to make the SNDR of the continuous-time modulator insensitive to DAC sampling clock jitter. We have confirmed that this is the...

Compensation of Nonlinearities in ΣΔ Modulators Using Digital Assisted Analog Electronics Approach

This paper presents a Digital Signal Processing (DSP) technique to compensate nonlinearities in reconfigurable Sigma Delta (ΣΔ) Modulator. In order to design digitally enhanced transceiver, a problem of nonlinearities in these modulators should be addressed. The problem arises due to the constituent building block of ΣΔ Modulators i.e. Digital to Analog Converter (DAC). Since DAC is outside the...

Spectral Shaping of Circuit Errors in Digital-to-Analog Converters - Circuits and Systems II: Analog and Digital Signal Processing, IEEE Transactions on

Recently, various multibit noise-shaping digital-toanalog converters (DAC’s) have been proposed that use digital signal processing techniques to cause the DAC noise arising from analog component mismatches to be spectrally shaped. Such DAC’s have the potential to significantly increase the present precision limits of data converters by eliminating the need for one-bit quantization in delta-sigm...

A Multi-Feedback Design for LC Bandpass Delta-Sigma Modulators

A new technique for designing an LC bandpass DeltaSigma modulator is presented. This method is based on pulse shaping of a DAC output signal such that one can realize a desired (arbitrary) loop transfer function. Especially for higher-order modulators where extra LC sections are added, sufficient number of parameters are provided in the feedback loop. It is shown that by creating more degrees o...
